New Member Guide

Welcome to Apollo Beach Running Club!

We're excited to have you join our running community. Below you'll find answers to common questions about getting started with us.

How do I join?

It's easy! Just show up to one of our weekly runs. We're a welcoming, informal group. For updates and to connect with other members, join our Facebook Group. There are no membership fees - we're a free community running club!

When and where do you meet?

We have three regular weekly runs:

  • Monday at 6:30 PM - Location varies (check our calendar of events for weekly updates)
  • Wednesday at 6:30 PM - Finn's Dockside, Apollo Beach
  • Saturday at 7:30 AM - Waterset Club, Apollo Beach

Check our Calendar of Events page for the most current schedule and any special events.

What pace do you run?

All paces are welcome! We have runners from beginners to experienced marathoners. Our members run at various paces, and we often split into different pace groups. Whether you're running 15-minute miles or 7-minute miles, you'll find friendly runners at your speed.

How far do you run?

Distance varies by run and individual preference. Typical distances range from 3-8 miles. Many members adjust their distance based on their training goals. Check out our Routes page to see some of our popular running routes.

What should I bring?
  • Water bottle or hydration pack (especially in summer)
  • Proper running shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • ID and phone (for safety)
  • Headlamp or reflective gear (for evening runs)
  • Positive attitude and ready to have fun!
What about weather?

We run rain or shine! However, runs may be cancelled for severe weather conditions (lightning, tropical storms, etc.). Check our Facebook group for last-minute weather-related updates. Florida summer heat can be intense, so bring plenty of water and wear light-colored, breathable clothing.

Where do I park?

Parking availability varies by location. For Finn's Dockside (Wednesday runs), use their parking lot. For Waterset Club (Saturday runs), park in designated visitor areas.

I'm nervous about my first run. Any tips?

Don't be! We're a friendly, welcoming group. Here are some tips for your first run:

  • Arrive a few minutes early to introduce yourself
  • Let others know you're new - we love meeting new members!
  • Don't worry about keeping up - run at your own pace
  • Feel free to ask questions
  • Join us for post-run social time to get to know everyone
Is there a safety policy?

Safety is important! We recommend:

  • Never run alone - use the buddy system
  • Carry ID and a phone
  • Be visible - wear reflective gear for evening runs
  • Follow traffic laws and run against traffic when on roads
  • Stay hydrated, especially in Florida heat
  • Know your limits and listen to your body
